Police are investigating whether there are any additional victims after a recording device was discovered last week in a washroom used by employees at the downtown Whole Foods store, 1640 Chicago Ave.

An employee at the store has been charged with one count of unlawful video recording, after one victim was identified from footage on the recording device, Sergeant Kenneth Carter said on April 1.

The employee was also charged with one count misdemeanor for installing a video device on the store premises without authorization, Carter said. He was released on April 1 on a recognizance bond at Skokie courthouse and is due back in court April 22, Carter said.

Carter said one of the store’s employees had discovered the device on March 23 in a toilet dispenser in a unisex bathroom used by employees at the store.

Police received a call about the incident on March 26, Carter said.

At the time the recording device was turned over to police, its activation switch was in the “off” position, he said.

On April 3, Rachel Malish of Whole Foods Market’s Global Public Relations emailed the RoundTable, “We are deeply troubled by this information and working in full cooperation with law enforcement in their investigation. This individual is no longer employed by Whole Foods Market and will not be allowed in any of our stores.“
