Filing is off to a slow start for Evanston’s once-in-every four years municipal election.
Twelve candidates filed petitions of candidacy on the first day of filing for next year’s election —
Feb. 25, if a primary; April 1, for the General Election.
Sixteen candidates filed on the first day of filing for the the election in 2021.

The candidates have the rest of this week through next Monday, Oct. 28, to file between the hours of 8:30 p.m., and 5 p.m., for the election in the City Clerk’s Office, Room 1200, at the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. The office is closed on Saturday and Sunday..
The minimum petition signatures needed between 43 to 129 for the ward races, and 534 and 674 for the Mayor an City Clerk positions, the two citywide positions.
