Races appear set for Evanston’s 2025 Municipal Election

Filing for office substantially down from four years ago

By Bob Seidenberg

Barring a successful petition challenge, the races are set for next April’s once-in-four years municipal election, with filings substantially lower than four years ago.

Three incumbents — City Clerk Stephanie Mendoza, Fourth Ward Alderperson Jonathan Nieuwsma and Ninth Ward Alderperson Juan Geracaris will run unopposed on the ballot for the April 1, 2025 election, according to the filings on the City Clerk’s website, at today’s deadline.

Overall, only 20 candidates filed petitions to run in the election compared to over 30 candidates who submitted petitions last time.
