Evanston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident Aug. 15 in which a pedestrian was struck by a car Aug. 15 as she was crossing north to south on the 1300 block of Central Street.
The pedestrian, identified as 60-year-old Rabia Ahmad of Lincolnwood, was transported to the Northshore University Healthsystems Evanston where she was pronounced dead of her injuries.
Police say the incident took place at approximately 9:36 p.m. Preliminary reports from witnesses, as well as interviews conducted by police, indicated the vehicle was traveling east along the 1300 block of Central Street, police said in their report. At the same time, they said, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway mid-block from the north to the south side of the street.
The driver, a 65-year-old resident of Skokie was not injured, and he remained at the scene, police said. He is cooperating with the investigation, they said, including submitting to all requested drug tests. He displayed no outward signs of impairment, they said.
