Restaurants could start selling alcohol as early as 7 a.m. seven days a week, under a change to go in front of the City Council’s Administration & Public Works Committee at their Marc 25 meeting.
The change only applies to alcohol sold in restaurants during the period when their patrons are offered a complete meal.
Current City Code allows Class D liquor license holders to begin selling alcohol at 11 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The city’s Liquor Review Board voted to recommend approval of the ordinance at their March 15 meeting.
Evanston, home to the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, was dry from 1858 until 1972, when the then City Council voted to allow restaurants and hotels to serve liquor on their premises.
The item is up for discussion at the Council’s Administration & Public Works Committee, set to meet at 5 p.m., Monday.
