Nine candidates will participate in a forum next month in which they’ll have the chance to showcase their credentials to fill a vacancy in the 2nd Ward City Council member slot.
The city announced today that as part of the search for a new 2nd Ward Council member, the candidates forum will be hold in-person and virtually on Tuesday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
As was the case in an opening in the 9th Ward earlier this year, Mayor Daniel Biss will interview the candidates at the forum.
Under the process used before, Biss is expected to then present his choice of candidate to fill the seat to the City Council for approval. Under state law, the candidate selected to fill the vacancy will serve until the municipal election in 2023.
According to a list from the city, the nine candidates filing for consideration (in alphabetical order) are: Keith Banks, Darlene Cannon, Matthew Farrauto, Patricia Gregory, Kristian Harris, Blanca Lule Mindy Scott, Anya Tanyavutti, and Jesus Vega.
Peter Braithwaite, the Alderperson in the ward for more than 10 years, stepped down effective July 15, opening up the vacancy.
